Saving the Life of a Porter
by Wanda Vivequin

The International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) works to improve the conditions of mountain porters in the tourism industry worldwide. This includes porters carrying for individual trekkers, organized groups, climbing expeditions and to resupply lodges.

Our aim is for every porter to have access to adequate clothing, boots, shelter and food, appropriate to the altitude and weather, plus medical care when ill or injured.

These aims are achieved through lobbying, education, monitoring and direct action through support of clothing banks, the construction of shelters and the provision of rescue posts.

Although this web site provides news, updates and advocacy information regarding porters and their work, you are also encouraged to support and participate in the organisation.

Please consider making a donation from our our supporter's page. If you have questions or can offer material support, please contact your country representative.

Your support and involvement is invaluable. Please consider joining IPPG or contributing in kind.

Looking into the crystal ball, it would seem that the way of the future for tourism operators is combining adventure holidays with practical and well thought out aid to the communities visited.
It is IPPG's wish to promote an ethical and sustainable trekking industry to benefit all concerned. Please help to achieve this end by encouraging people to go trekking and to care for their porters.
