A Model for Sustainable Mountain Tourism

  • Treat porters kindly and fairly
  • Check porters' (and other staff's) health on a daily basis and liaise with trek leader and/or clients in order to make appropriate decisions in the field
  • Make sure enough funds are provided to sick porters (and other staff) to get back and get treated

Trekker's responsibilities

  • Before departure, make sure their porters have adequate equipment and insurance
  • Ask the sirdar and trek leader about porters and staff each day while trekking
  • Complain to the trekking agent in Nepal and their country, if porters were not treated properly

Local people responsibility

  • Treat porters as other human beings
  • Help porters in difficult situations
  • Suggest porters about the weather conditions
