IPPG plans for 1999

  • A mail-out of this newsletter to the trekking agencies and travel media of various countries.
  • Develop a web site devoted to IPPG and the porters' issues.
  • Look for funding and a film unit to produce a documentary on the life of a porter.
  • Another International conference will be held in Kathmandu in September or October
  • Paul Deegan from World Expeditions in London is working on delivering two lectures on trekking in the Himalayas in February. World Expeditions is intending to donate half of the proceeds to IPPG and use this platform to raise awareness of the porter safety issue.
  • Register IPPG as a charitable organization in various countries.

Long term vision

  • Find representatives in more countries, and even states of larger countries.
  • Look at conditions for porters in countries other than Nepal.
  • The year 2002 will be dedicated by the United Nations to the year of Mountain Culture, and it will be a great opportunity for IPPG to work towards porters safety.
Readers: If you have ideas or suggestions, IPPG would very much like to hear them. IPPG will only be effective if we all contribute our vision.
