The Manang Rescue Fund (MRF)

  An IPPG initiative Aim
  • To avoid dangerous delays in bringing sick or injured people down to safety, by providing a financial incentive to local people who carry out this task.
  • To publicize the availability of this fund and to educate local people to recognize sick persons.

Administration

  • The MRF will be administered by the officers of the Manang Youth Club (Nyeshyang Club).

Publicity

  • MRF members will talk to local people, lodge owners, trekkers, porters, sirdars and tour guides outlining the scheme. MRF members will put up notices in Nepali and English (and other languages) explaining MRF and how to help and donate. IPPG will help with publicity.

Fund raising

  • Donation boxes in lodges around Manang
  • Soliciting funds directly from trekkers and trekking agencies IPPG fund raising.

What MRF has done so far

  • MRF has also been involved in a search and retrieval of four local girls killed in the heavy snows of December 1997.
  • On 6th Dec. 97, the local reps of the Manang Rescue Fund organized a fundraiser in Manang itself.
  • MRF has this year extensively publicized the existence of their fund to the local people.
PS. No porter died on the Thorung-La during 1998
