Note from the editor:
No report means this country either has not submitted one or there has been no change in their financial status.

Where does the money go?

Does 100% of the money donated to IPPG go directly into helping the porters or does only a portion go to them while the rest go to "admin costs"?

All donations go directly to helping the porters. All IPPG representatives do their work without any monetary compensation, wages or pay. The only money they touch is the reimbursement of their expenses such as stamps, envelopes, printing/photocopying the newsletters and pamphlets, etc. Occasionally it becomes necessary for IPPG to provide a computer to a rep, as it was for Prakash in Nepal.
Money donated or raised has been used so far in the following ways:

1. On-going financing of:

  • Production and distribution of IPPG newsletters and pamphlets to raise awareness in the trekking industry and amongst the trekkers.
  • Donations to Porter's Progress and the Porter Clothing Bank. Occasionally, buying second-hand clothing for the Clothing Bank
  • Donations towards the building of Porter Shelters by the Himalayan Guide Association in Nepal
  • Financing of education classes, conferences and workshops for porters and trekking agencies in Nepal (by Prakash Adhikari)

2. Financing of specific projects:

  • Producing the travelling photo-exhibition Celebrating the Mountain Porter which has been so far presented in Nepal, Calgary, Innsbruck Austria, Auckland New Zealand, and is on its way to Spain and USA. This is a great way to raise awareness and donations.
  • Producing porters photos on CD that can now be used when articles are written about porters in various publications
  • Various donations, eg. Serena Rix, producing two videos
