By a coincidence 2002
was the UN Years of Ecotourism and Mountains, so a lot of
beneficial attention was focussed on the porter issue.
In this issue you will
find a cross-section of all the effort that has gone into
the year from all the voluntary IPPG representatives and our
sister organizations such as Tourism Concern, Porters Progress,
Himalayan Explorers Connection, Portdeadores Inka Ñan
and the Kilimanjaro Porters Association.
Just writing these names
makes me realize just how much progress there has been since
1997 when IPPG was formed. There is plenty still to do and
IPPG is asking its supporters for donations. As always, 99%
of every donation is spent directly on projects and not on
wages, expenses or infrastructure. This is what makes IPPG
uniquely efficient. If you have a charitable urge and want
to help some of the poorest of the poor who are trying to
help themselves, join us by giving generously to your local
representative.
A huge thank you to all
our IPPG reps worldwide who work entirely voluntarily and
with little recognition to help porters worldwide.
