Porters
Progress founder Ben Ayers will be leading a special trek
to Everest Base Camp in October to raise much needed funds
for PP and the IPPG. This fresh approach to Himalayan trekking
will see porters act as guides & cultural translators. The
specially devised trek will provide trekkers an unparalleled
insight into the Everest region as shared by your porters.
The trip also plans to raise enough money to support the Machermo
Porter First Aid Post for one year as well as many other Porters
Progress projects.
The 20-day
Porters Progress trek to Everest Base Camp aims to bring the
landscapes of Nepal to life by encouraging interaction between
trekkers and their porters. Each evening Ben will translate
traditional songs, poetry and topics ranging from herbal medicine
to shamanistic healing, providing the group with a deeper
understanding of what the mountains and monasteries mean to
the local people.
The actual
trek will take an unusual route via the spectacular Ama Dablam
base camp to Everest Base Camp. The itinerary includes an
opportunity to visit the Porters Progress offices in Kathmandu
& Lukla as well as schools and hospitals built by Sir Edmund
Hillaryıs Himalayan Trust. A portion of the trek cost will
be donated to PP as well as the Machermo Porter shelter.
